Your consumer unit (fuse box) is the heart of your electrical system, protecting every circuit in the property. Older units with rewireable fuses offer far less protection than modern units with RCDs and circuit breakers, which cut the power instantly when they detect a fault.
Why upgrade your consumer unit?
Modern consumer units give much better protection against electric shock and electrical fires. If your board still uses old-style rewireable fuses, has no RCD protection, or shows signs of age or overheating, an upgrade is a worthwhile safety improvement — and is often required before other work like an EV charger or a rewire.
Newer boards must meet the latest wiring regulations, including surge protection and metal enclosures in most homes.
What's included
- Safe isolation and removal of the old unit
- New consumer unit with RCD/RCBO protection
- Surge protection where required
- Testing of existing circuits
- Full certification and building-control notification
Testing comes first
Before fitting a new unit we test your existing circuits, because a new board with sensitive protection can reveal pre-existing faults in old wiring. We identify anything that needs attention and quote transparently rather than surprising you mid-job.
